Spring Cleaning with Figgy & Co
Spring is officially here. It’s time to come out of hibernation, sow seeds and watch the flowers begin to bloom. Spring is a fresh start, a new beginning. Virgo season. Virgo wants to purify our health and daily routines. It’s time to cleanse and declutter. Back in the day, Spring meant more light so people could see their living space better and warmer weather also meant that people could get things thoroughly dry. It’s time to organize the garden and get the home clean, tidy and ready for the warm days to come.
Because Spring Cleaning is a deep cleaning of the whole living space, the most effective way to tackle the job is to divide the living spaces into sections and do one section at a time. If you live a busy lifestyle and only have time on the weekend this might look like doing one section each weekend. Or if you are currently in lockdown this could be a great opportunity to Spring clean your entire living space in just a few days.
Declutter First. Over time we accumulate things that we don’t necessarily need to keep. Get two boxes, one for rubbish and for rehome/donate. As you pull everything out of a cupboard or draw you can get rid of those items which you no longer require. Struggling to detach? Put it in a sealed box with the date on it and then put that box in your garage. If you still have not opened it in a year, chances are you don’t need what’s inside the box.
Consider this; cleaning can feel overwhelming. The less stuff you have to maintain the quicker and easier is to keep your home clean and tidy.

Figgy & Co is a women-led New Zealand owned and operated company on a mission to get New Zealand homes clean, without all those nasty chemicals. Over the past couple of generations, chemically-based cleaning products have become standard in many homes. This is probably because they are easy to use and appear to do a good job. But turn that bottle over and read the ingredients list and you’ll see where the problem lies (if the ingredients are listed at all?!). The continuous use of these chemical products builds up in the body and can cause skin and lung conditions, including cancer. Chemical cleaners also are a hazard to the environment as they can end up in our waterways, reduce the quality of drinking water and are toxic to plants and animals.
Figgy & Co offers ready-made and DIY cleaning ingredients so you can make your own custom cleaning recipes yourself. They stock hand-batched soaps, dry ingredients, essential oils and reusable hardware. Figgy & Co is committed to producing non-toxic cleaning products which leave your home clean and smelling amazing! This means no detergents, parabens, sulphates, silicones, phthalates, hormone disrupters, synthesised fragrances or optical brighteners. Effective, clean, green products are delivered to your door for a very affordable price.
